It is 8 a.m. and I am ready to go back to bed. I dropped the girl-child off at her school this morning at 5:30 for a ski trip, which should be interesting. The local highway signs are announcing that chains are required at Blue Lake, which is only a few miles inland. Knowing Humboldt, though, that probably means that someone thought they saw a snowflake and assumed the sky was falling.

I shouldn’t complain, but hey, I am 42, what else is there for me to do?- We were supposed to meet at 5:30 and get the kids, food and luggage sorted out for a 6 a.m. departure. With this crowd, that means everyone rolling in between 5:30 and 6, then sort of shoving people and stuff into cars. Still, it was less chaotic than the opera trip a few months back. If I did not have exciting plans for my head and a pillow, it would have been no big deal.

My responsibility for this trip was to send the girl-child with four boxes of cookies. I sent six, so I think I am a good parent. Although, considering that it was a mix of Oreos, Samoas (thanks, neighborhood Girl Scout!) and whatever was closest on the shelves of our local Murphy’s Market the other day, maybe not so much. I should have considered my target audience and found the gluten-free sugarless vegan cookies. I am sure the kids would have loved me for that (actually, looking around on those site, maybe they would. Some of that dangerously healthy stuff looks tasty!).

So yes, it is cold out there. I still need to assemble my weather station, so I have no idea how cold it actually is. I CAN tell you that it is cold enough that all of our sheep are out there in their woolen coats. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Hmmm . . . I may need some sleep after all.
