Screaming Head Laughing

This is but one of several heads mounted along the walls of my grandfather’s house. They used to scare the hell out of me when I was younger.

It did not help that my grandfather would tell a story of how the house was built by a father and son and that the heads, mounted along the wall (which appear to either be laughing or screaming, depending on my mood), are supposedly meant to look like the father, murdered by his son.

I love my grandfather, although the story he told was probably completely false. The house was most likely built by sadistic elves who liked to give small children horrible dreams.

The Spastic Avenger Strikes Again!

Our little Panda is now one year old. I would show a picture of him today, but he’s been hanging out in the dirt and REALLY needs a bath. I know there is some white under there somewhere, under all that grey and brown and maybe even a little algae green . . .

And since he is now almost as wide as he is tall, he looks kind of like a tick. Oh little Panda, don’t get wedged between the trees . . .

Mom is one of the twins, #10, I think. Whoever she is, she wandered off to feed and this little critter is just screaming his head off. Hopefully mom will come back to feed the 3 and 3/4 pounds of fluffiness.

This past week brought us two new lambs, one from Bonnie-Bell and one from Vally. The first is a tiny little ram lamb, seen in the following pictures with some other nosy little lamb (whose name, or at least lineage, I’d tell you if I could remember it at the moment). For now, we are calling him Patrick Cabbage.

The second is a nine-pound brute of a ram lamb with awesome coloring and a likely future on the barbeque. Sorry dude. If it is any consolation, Patrick will probably be joining you . . .

We had two new lambs hanging out in the pasture yesterday morning. One looks like he was born the night before, and the other that morning. Like their mothers, their personalities are quite different.

The little boy has a very friendly mom, always coming up to demand treats when we are out there. Her little lamb stood on my boots while we fed them, and let me pet him.

Mmmm . . . mud!

Unless we get our act together and start focusing on starter flocks, these cute little beasties are going in our bellies. And it would be nice to have them be human-friendly rather than just running away in blind panic. Step one, I suppose, would be finding them names and spending more time out there in the mud and the trees with them.
