It’s time to write. It’s time to write, and continue writing. Usually I scribble something down on a notepad or a post-it (tm?), then ignore it. Occasionally I put a half-baked idea together and add it to my documents directory (no, not My Documents. My OS of choice doesn’t usually use whitespace in directory names), where it eventually gets deleted when I do a bit of millenial cleaning. No, it is time to write, and to train myself to write regularly. Sure, it may just be pointless drivel, but how else am I going to get better? I need to write things down and think them out a bit. Move beyond just pointing out that the Heartland of America seems to be more the Abscess of America (fitting, you Red States. You’re an infection on the soul of our country. Nothing like a bunch of idiots willing to throw away freedom in the name of hollow promises). Actually write about it. And hopefully with better sentences than those last two.

So, my Thanksgiving Day resolution (okay, several days before Thanksgiving resolution) is to write. Speak up and speak out. Point out that there are occasionally good things that occur, such as the No Software Patents! movement, which mightl at least make it so I have a chance at work in the EU. Patents in the U.S. used to be based on some sort of concept of uniqueness. Now they’re based on whether you are willing to pay the patent fee. Something just doesn’t seem right about that. I give thanks that there might still be countries where idealism, freedom, and rights haven’t been replaced by fear, greed, and sheer stupidity.

What else will I write about? Who knows? Who cares? How about my great country, ’tis of thee, sweet land of conservatives? Hey, let’s trade freedom for a constant state of war! Let’s accept as truth anything that is repeated enough times! We don’t need evidence, backing, or any reality. Just tell us what to believe. It’s fascinating listening to the news; something like 80% of Iraqi children ages 6 months to 5 years are suffering from severe malnutrition because aid workers cannot get to the regions where these children live, yet supposedly there are only two or three regions in Iraq where there is any unrest. Hmmmm . . . does that mean that there are only two or three regions in Iraq, or that we’ve screwed the pooch on this one, and are lying like Republicans to keep it quiet? I would guess the latter. Just something to think about. And write about.

What else? Oh yes, the WAR ON DRUGS. It’s an important topic, so I figure I’ll give it some capital letters. So, we’re sending another couple billion to Colombia to fight the WAR ON DRUGS. We’ve also restored the Afghan opium fields to their former glory. This is somewhat confusing. We’re paying to theoretically stop cocaine production in one region, and we are helping recreate a thriving opium/heroin trade in another region? I guess we know what the drug of choice is these days for our great leadership. G.W. must truly be done with coke, I guess. Okay, enough rambling for right now. Maybe next time I’ll include links of dubious value to support my various random points. Or maybe I’ll stick with the Fox News approach and just repeat everything in an angry voice until it is accepted as fact. Good night, Gracie.
