oliphant parts
Virage, Inc.[www.virage.com]
This is where I spend my days, slaving away behind the keyboard.  I build video search interfaces for anyone who wants one (and has the money), get to code my way out of many a corner, and generally have a heck of a lot of fun.

Slashdot[www.slashdot.org]
Home away from home -- nerd Mecca.

Freshmeat[freshmeat.net]
See slashdot comments.  My Meccas are multiplying!

Tina's Site
My inspiration.  Whenever I feel self-doubt, I read the stories & poetry on this site and realize that I am not that bad after all.  What else?  Actually, she is quite good at times.  My own Kali, goddess of desire and destruction.  Because of Tina, I finally got my bum in gear and built out my own site.  And now she's gone. :(

Popular Photography & Imaging    yeah, it's an ad. I want the camera they're giving away. So sue me. No wait, don't -- I'm broke!

The Glomph[www.glomph.com]
What can I say?  He's a (the?) webmaster at RealNetworks, and there's nothing better than a little gloomovision on a sunny afternoon.

ArtCurrent
My friend Erik built this site while running the Internet side of an Internet Cafe in Seattle, WA several years ago.  Anyone want to take over as webmaster?  Too late, some bugger took it and made it . . . belts.com? What the hell does that have to do with art?

ROBTv[robtv.com]
Great Canadian business news, and better yet, I was part of the team that implemented their video search (and publishing) sections.  Check out past programs and highlights.

The following are sites I have built since joining Virage.  They were all (well, most) a lot of fun to build.
behindthechair[www.behindthechair.com]
The video search interface for the cosmetologist and salon professional.  I thought I was going a bit wild on the colours, but it was just what they wanted.  Fun stuff -- when do I get my angular cut?

Business2.0
The video search interface for Business2.0's online magazine.
Another one bites the dust . . .

click2learn
The video search interface for click2learn, a learning portal.  I don't know if they are actually offering courses or not, though, as quite frequently they fail to stream video. :(
And now, have faded into the unknown.

CSPAN Debates
CSPAN video search interface for the year 2000 presidential debates.  May the sneakiest, least honest man win.  Oops, too late -- he already did.  And now, they're off the 'net.

IDG ASPWORLD Conference & Expo
IDG's video search interface for the ASPWORLD Conference & Expo (just thought I would state the obvious here).  Nice colours.
This was just a brief site, to cover the expo.  Oh well.

NBCi
I did a redesign here rather than a full site build.  What can I say, other than that snap.com sounds snappier than NBCi.com?  And yes, this is another video search interface.
Another one bites the dust.

PBS: Julia Child[pbs-juliachild.virage.com]
Lessons with Master Chefs:  Prime Video Cuts.

PBS: Mathline[pbs-mathline.virage.com]
This is the first site to use the "play entire video" functionality.  I am amazed that the whole thing runs, actually, but it does.  There are four results pages, depending on the grade level chosen (I start you off in k-2), and eight initial search boxes.

PBS: Scientific American Frontiers[pbs-saf.virage.com]
Scientific American Frontiers:  Video Archive.  More fun stuff -- watch them grow a nose or design a roboroach.

PBS: Tennessee Crossroads[pbs-npt.virage.com]
This is an early site.  Personally, I like the thumb pianos.

Strategic Intelligence Asia
     Asia's ultimate online business resource.
Not sure what happened here.  I built it, and they did not come.

Techtv
The video search interface for techtv.  I helped someone else build this one, but wanted a longer list, so here it is.
Yet another dead link in this sea of rapidly diminishing dot-coms.

The Human Genome Project
The Human Genome Project:  Applications and Implications.  This is the final of a series of six discussion panels for the year 2000, held at TheTech museum of innovation in San Jose, CA.
Bummer.  Another short-term project.

Warner Bros. Trailer Search Site
Search for the trailer for your favourite Warner Bros. movie.  Too bad you can't see the whole movie.

CNET News Search Site
I started out just maintaining this site (and its sibling search sites demo, mysimon, and zdnet [replace 'user=cnet_news' in the url with 'user=cnet_xxxxx', where xxxxx is either demo, mysimon, or zdnet]), but have done so many redesigns that I think I can call these sites mine by now.  As of June 1st (I think), they began hosting their own search/video interface.

C-SPAN Booknotes[booknotes.org]
Is this thing live yet?  Virage's contribution is, as usual, the video search part of this.  Log in to 'my booknotes', and watch a book.  A number of us were involved in making this thing work, but since I was the last one, I will take all of the credit. ;)

NASCAR[nascar.com]
Like booknotes, a number of us were involved in making this thing work, but I was once again the last one.  If you enter via the nascar.com link, good luck actually finding the video search interface.  They change its location daily, it seems.

TEID[teid]
Enter through the online presentations link, and enjoy the world of Lawrence Berkeley Labs.
